Server-hugging geeks. I'm mildly offended.
As a "server-hugging geek" myself, I didn't know how to take the idea that my stuff wasn't bulletproof. But it's true. So many variables to failure in the server upkeep world. Here's one "cloud computing" provider's perspective on doing your own server management.
www.nohardware.com. Inside sources claim the next video comes out on Monday. Yes, yes, smacks massively of product placement, and for that I apologize. Personally, I think if you are doing server administration for your own research, geek enjoyment, or project development, then it is good to expose yourself to server outage risks. Good practice, mindful non-lazy administration. But if, like they say, the boss will fire you for downtime, cloud computing may be a way to go. Dedicated physical server, cloud, who cares, as long as it's up and running, right?
